The final fixture of the North East Masters Track and Field League took place at Monkton Stadium last night, but before the action got under way a minute’s silent  tribute followed by a round of applause was called upon for one of the region’s leading officials who recently died. Tommy Morgan, a life member of Wallsend Harriers, acted as field referee at not just local events but was also often called upon to officiate at national fixtures where his knowledge was greatly appreciated. Condolences to Tommy’s family from everyone connected with athletics here in the region. RIP.
