We are delighted to announce that NECAA’s Half Marathon Championships will this year for the first time be hosted by the AJ Bell Great North Run. The event has in the past hosted both the British and World Championships but never the North-Eastern Championships. We are extremely privileged to have this prestigious opportunity and appreciate the generosity of Sir Brendan Foster and his team in agreeing preferential privileges for NECAA entrants. As the event is massively oversubscribed, Brendan has agreed that NECAA members will have 120 places in the race at a 50% discount of £34.50, even if you have already entered, the balance will be refunded. These places have been allocated on the following basis to try and strike a balance between facilitating the best championship entries and being inclusive for some of our less serious NECAA club members or eligible athletes:
- Men: sub:70 mins for a half marathon or 52 mins 30 seconds for 10 miles, in the past two years: 30 places
- Women: sub 83 mins for a half marathon or 62 mins for 10 miles, in the past two years: 30 places
- Club Runners: Men: sub 90 mins for a half marathon or 70 mins for 10 miles, in the past two years: 30 places
- Club Runners: Women: sub 95 mins for a half marathon or 80 mins for 10 miles, in the past two years: 30 places
- In addition, we can nominate Elite Athletes for the Elite Starts
- Men: Sub 66 mins
- Women: Sub 77 mins
- All other NECAA Athletes will start immediately behind the Elite Start and have identifying numbers which allow them to do so.
- Once your entry has been approved the GNR will send you a special entry link to process your entry and collect or refund part of your entry fee as appropriate.
- NECAA Entries will open on 22nd April and close at midnight on 17th May.
- If your best times are just outside the specified qualifying standards please still submit your details, as we may be under-subscribed in that category.
- The organisers decisions are final.
NECCA events are confined to athletes born or having bona fide residence for nine months prior to the date of the competition, in the counties of Northumberland, Durham, Tyne and Wear or Cleveland. Athletes may compete in the Championships of only one County Association in any one calendar year. NECCA are operating under rule 21 S6 as one County and clubs must abide by these rules regarding qualifications and any other matters.
NB This does not qualify students who have resided during term time alone.
Membership of a NECCA club does not determine eligibility.
