Calum Johnson, Chair of the England Athletics Athlete’s Panel, Mike Dickinson of Houghton Harriers and myself (Kevin Johnson) carried out a course inspection today at Hetton Country Park, ahead of Saturday’s Signals Road Relay and NECAA Championships. Whilst the course is flooded in parts we believe it is safe and runnable although runners should be prepared to get wet feet. We have made a few small refinements to avoid the worst of the water and plan to relocate the start and finish to the top of the last hill to provide a longer run into the first ‘water splash’ and improve sight lines for officials spotting incoming runners.
Please arrive early in order to make your own assessment of the course. Calum is course record holder and advises that the course is perfectly runnable.
If you haven’t already made your team declarations please do so urgently on the link provided.
Action gets underway at 12 noon. We expect 5 degrees and sunshine on Saturday.
Kind Regards
Kevin Johnson
Chair of NECAA Road Running
